_edited.png

Rooted Self
Regenerative life, career & well-being coaching in North Yorkshire and online

Supporting you through overwhelm and burnout, change, uncertainty and the messy middle of life with coaching that helps you grow sustainably, not just keep pushing through.

At Where The Mind Grows, I offer life coaching, career coaching and coaching for well-being  rooted in nature, nervous system awareness and regenerative approaches to change.

Together, we create space for you to slow down, reconnect with yourself and move forward in ways that feel more aligned, meaningful and sustainable. In life, work, and within you too.

Whether we work together outdoors from private woodland in North Yorkshire, as a Walk and Talk session in public parks and woodland across West and North Yorkshire or online via Zoom. Coaching is shaped around your whole self , its holistic and strengths based. Not just a place to talk about problems. Instead a way to grow your awareness of yourself, your situation, explore the present and design intentions that lead to a beautiful and well-resourced future (With the confidence and means to deal with life's ups and downs too).

Keen to just have a conversation? Book a discovery call, to get the clarity you need to decide your coaching next steps.

You might be here because...

You’ve spent so long coping, performing or holding everything together that you’ve lost sight of what you actually need. Or felt yourself confused and lost in the pace and busyness of life or work.

Maybe:

  • work no longer feels sustainable or purposeful

  • you’re navigating anxiety, worry, stress, low mood, burnout or overwhelm

  • your confidence is disappearing, or disconnecting from who you know yourself to be, or has never quite feel like it arrived in the first place.

  • you’re questioning what comes next and feeling the pressure of making the right choice, worrying about the consequences of getting it wrong.

  • life looks “fine” on the outside but doesn’t feel truly aligned. This includes lots of ruminating and over-thinking, adds tensions to relationships while you try to figure it all out and makes you feel like an ungenuine version of yourself, in the places you wished you could be at your most natural.

  • you’re craving slower, more meaningful ways of living and working - feeling in your body and mind, that this too much or not enough can't be something you put up with for ever.

  • you feel stuck between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming, how to define this and what you truly need for happiness and health.

  • You often feel guilty or doubtful when you try to make choices that lead with yourself first.

  • You are facing or have faced a significant adversity or change in life, that feels relevant to all of the above.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin.

Sessions together can even be a place to begin making sense of your experiences. So it makes change and action easier in the long run.

This is a space for honesty, reflection, experimentation and change at a pace your nervous system can actually sustain.

A regenerative approach to change

Most of us have been taught to keep going at all costs. To override our needs. Push through exhaustion. Stay productive. Keep performing. Try harder. So often cultivating an inner voice that questions if we are actually good enough, never quite feeling settled.

But nature does not work that way.

Healthy ecosystems rely on rest, adaptation, diversity, connection and renewal. Growth happens in cycles not through constant pressure. And we can learn from this to change the way we live our lives and approach our careers, even when the bigger systems try to lead us to over stretched and stressed ways.

My coaching approach is inspired by those same principles.

Rather than trying to “fix” yourself or force another version of success, Rooted Self coaching helps you reconnect with your own rhythms, values, strengths and needs. Things change naturally from this place within you!

Nature becomes more than a backdrop.

It becomes:

  • a place to breathe

  • a co-facilitator for reflection

  • a reminder that sustainable growth takes time

  • a different model for how we live and work

This is coaching for people who want to create change without abandoning themselves in the process. This recognises that each and everyone of us, in our own experience of growth, can contribute to a more beautiful future too.

Three ways we can work together

Woodland Coaching Sessions

Immersive coaching sessions in private woodland near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

These deeper sessions offer space to pause, reflect and reconnect away from the noise and pressure of everyday life.

Woodland coaching can support:

  • Confidence & self esteem

  • Meaning, Direction & Purpose

  • Career Transitions and Change

  • Burnout recovery

  • Navigating life transitions

  • Shifts in Identity and Roles (work/life)

  • Grief and loss

  • Navigating a long term health condition or diagnosis (such as Nuerodivergence)

  • Emotional exhaustion

  • Reconnecting with purpose

  • Nervous system regulation

For many people, simply being outdoors changes what becomes possible in conversation.

Walk and Talk Sessions

Outdoor coaching sessions in parks, woodland and natural spaces across North & West Yorkshire in nature spaces near Leeds, York, Harrogate and Ripon. Walking side-by-side often helps conversations flow more naturally and can feel gentler than sitting face-to-face indoors. I'll share even more cool aspects of this in our sessions too.

These sessions are especially supportive for:

  • Stress and overwhelm

  • Motivation & Low Mood

  • Handling challenges at work or home

  • Overthinking

  • Feeling stuck

  • Career transitions

  • Confidence building

  • Emotional processing

Nature helps create perspective, movement and breathing space.

Online Life & Career Coaching

Online coaching offers flexible support wherever you are in the UK.

These sessions bring the same reflective, grounded and regenerative approach into your everyday environment and routines. With ways to incorporate nature in and between our sessions, prompted by me (JK).

Online coaching can be a good fit if you:

  • Live outside Yorkshire

  • Find the outdoor venues inaccessible for your personal needs.

  • Prefer coaching from home/indoors

  • Need flexibility around work or caring responsibilities

  • Want ongoing support between outdoor sessions

You do not need to live near the woods to reconnect with yourself.

" I ditched a lot of unhelpful and toxic beliefs about myself and work, then recognised how much that held me back... Considering I was chained to a desk (figuratively) I underestimated how important connection to nature is for my own well-being...Thanks a million JK, you’ve been amazing!"  Joe

Areas I commonly support people with

  • Burnout, stress, worry, anxiety & overwhelm

  • Career change & meaningful work

  • Challenges in the workplace (Team dynamics, workload, bullying or toxic cultures, time management and motivation)

  • Confidence & self-worth

  • Purpose & identity

  • Anxiety & emotional regulation

  • Boundaries & people pleasing

  • Neurodiversity & self-understanding

  • Comparison, Imposter, People Pleasing and 'Not Good Enough'

  • Grief, change & life transitions

  • Living with life long conditions

  • Health & Well-Being

  • Money stories and psychology

  • Boundaries and Communication

  • Leadership & sustainable working

  • Creating a slower, more aligned life

Many people arrive feeling disconnected from themselves, compromising aspects of life and relationships, exhausted by modern working life or unsure how to move forward without pushing harder or spreading yourself too thin.

Often, coaching is not about becoming someone new. It is about returning to yourself that feel lost and disconnected and embracing the present and forward motions of our lives as you continuous evolve and adapt.

Who I work with

I work with adult men and women from many different walks of life . Often people who have lots of roles or responsibilities, questioning what matters, or trying to find more sustainable ways of living and working.

Some people come to coaching feeling burnt out or stuck.

Others arrive during periods of transition, loss, change or quiet dissatisfaction.

You do not need to fit a particular mould to begin and a short introductory conversation together, will explore how we might work together and if coaching is a good fit.

What people often leave with

Every persons experience and exploration within coaching is different and unique to your circumstances, but here is what people frequently leave coaching feeling:

  • Clearer about what they actually want and need

  • More confident making decisions and trusting themselves

  • Deepened awareness and understanding of self and others

  • Calmer, more grounded and less emotionally overwhelmed

  • Able to recognise and communicate boundaries more clearly

  • Less trapped in cycles of overthinking, people pleasing or self-criticism

  • More connected to their values, needs and strengths

  • More hopeful about life and work again

  • Better able to navigate change without abandoning themselves in the process

  • Equipped with practical tools and reflections that continue beyond sessions

  • A new career or life opportunity as a result to the change explored

  • Unexpected insights, that a client once said felt like 'magic'

Sometimes the shifts are externally visible:

A career change, healthier relationships, new routines, different choices.

Sometimes they are more internal:
More ease, more honesty, more self-compassion, more feeling like yourself again.

Coaching doesn’t remove the complexity of being human.

But it can help you meet life differently.

Jenwoods.jpeg

"Things have been changing, for the better. I feel like I am choosing myself first and instead of worrying if that makes me a bad person, I am seeing the benefits of it in all areas of my life. When I am being that person to myself, I have more energy" Jenny

How I work with you:

Sessions usually take place in the woodland I lease near Ripon, through walk-and-talk sessions across North & West Yorkshire, or online via Zoom when needed.

Most sessions last around 90 minutes and are shaped around you, your pace, and what feels supportive and realistic for where you are right now.

Some people arrive needing space to breathe and untangle their thoughts.

Others come with clear goals, decisions to make, or patterns they’re ready to shift.

Together we create a space that allows for both reflection and action.

Coaching alongside me is collaborative, grounded and adapted to the individual rather than following a rigid formula or one-size-fits-all process.

I draw on a range of coaching, psychology-informed and nature-based approaches including:

  • Reflective coaching practices

  • Nervous system awareness

  • Trauma-informed approaches

  • ecopsychology and nature connection

  • Practical tools that support sustainable change

Sessions can be thoughtful, honest, challenging, spacious, creative or transformative. Often all of those things at once. Many clients find this a special place to truly be themselves.

Nature plays an important role in the process too.

Things can shift when we step outside the usual environments where stress, pressure and expectations tend to dominate. People often find they can think more clearly, speak more openly and reconnect with themselves more honestly outdoors, and I'll help you understand the neuroscience of this if you are curious.

Most people benefit from between 2–6 sessions, though there is no pressure or expectation to commit beyond what feels right for you. We can explore what support would be most helpful during a free discovery call together

About me, JK

I’m Jennie-Kate McQuinn, most people call me JK . I am  coach, facilitator, consultant and founder of Where The Mind Grows.

After more than fifteen years working across mental health, employability, leadership and well-being services, I saw how many people were surviving by disconnecting from themselves. Over busy and rarely feeling the effort they made, rewarded a balanced life.

Rooted Self grew from a desire to create offerings that helped you replenish yourself within the extractive and over-busy systems we often have to face.

Most people I work and speak with, don't want anything ridiculously outlandish from life,  usually some beautiful experiences, good friendships and relationships, enough money for a simple life, for wild adventures and the chance to feel healthy and at your best.

Yet if we always spend life wanting, so often the moments pass us by.

I saw how impactful coaching could be for mindset, well-being and career and life choices. I have benefitted from it personally too.  I also saw how our disconnection from ourselves falls in total alignment with a separation from the Natural world too.

So back in 2018 I began weaving the two together, enhancing studies in the neuroscience of being in nature, learning ecopsychology, biomimicry and regenerative approaches. So that you get..

A coaching space that values:

  • Humanity over performance

  • Sustainability over burnout

  • Connection over constant productivity

  • Wild creativity and freedom

  • Offers joy and lightness in the heavier moments of life

  • Working with your true nature, not against it

Most of my work now happens outdoors in North Yorkshire;  walking, sitting beneath trees, noticing the seasons and creating space for people to hear themselves think again.

And when I am not helping people like you in those spaces.

I am probably off somewhere wild myself, camping, hiking, adventuring or sat in the woods, writing my book.
